Does your new Jeep Gladiator pull left or right when driving? Is it difficult to steer, or are you finding yourself constantly having to keep the vehicle straight when driving at high speeds? If so, know that you are not alone. Many drivers across the country have reported loose steering and other similar problems with 2020 Jeep Gladiator vehicles.
What Is the Problem?
Steering problems accounted for 110 out of 147 (75%) complaints against the 2020 Jeep Gladiator that have been registered with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Specifically, gladiator owners report that the steering is dangerously loose, especially at highway speeds and during warmer weather, and requires constant correction.
Some owners describe the steering problems as:
- Loose steering
- Wandering
- Drifting
- Excessive playing
- Pulling to the left or right
Did Jeep Solve the Problem Yet?
While the problem has been acknowledged by the auto manufacturer, it has yet to be fixed or part of a recall. In August 2020, Jeep released a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) addressing the Gladiator’s “pull” and “excessive play” steering issues.
The TSB is not the same thing as a recall. A recall is issued when a vehicle defect breaches safety standards or affects something safety-related to the vehicle; additionally, the car manufacturer is responsible for fixing all affected vehicles without expensing the consumer.
On the other hand, a TSB is issued when there is a technical problem with a vehicle that is not (yet proven) a safety concern. With a TSB, the manufacturer tells owners how to repair the problem but is not responsible for paying for repairs. Either costs will come out of the consumer’s pocket or will be covered under the car’s warranty.
What Are Your Rights?
As a vehicle owner, you have a right to expect that the car you drive will be safe and operate as you need it to. You should not have to pay to correct the Gladiator’s steering problem yourself; instead, your vehicle repairs may be covered under your Jeep warranty.
Additionally, if you find yourself having to go to the mechanic several times for this issue and it is not fixed, you may be entitled to a buyback, a refund, or cash reimbursement under California’s lemon laws. At Norman Taylor & Associates, we have been protecting the rights of consumers since 1987 and are ready to help you.
