Ford and Lincoln Recall Thousands of Vehicles in July

  July 27, 2021

Ford and Lincoln announced three (3) recalls on July 16, 2021. Yahoo has general information about the batch of summer recalls, which affect hundreds of thousands of cars, trucks, and SUVs. For more specific information about each recall, you can contact the vehicle manufacturer.

Ford Recalls More Than 700,000 Explorers

Ford has issued the recall of 774,696 Ford Explorers made between 2013 and 2017. The manufacturer is concerned about a “seized cross-axis ball joint that may cause a fractured rear suspension toe link.” The mechanical error could lead to diminished steering control and increase the risk of a car accident.

So far, Ford has reported six (6) allegations of injury related to the problem, though it only affects vehicles that have spent time in high corrosion states.

To fix the problem, Ford will inspect vehicles and replace the cross-axis ball joint and the toe links.

Lincoln Recalls 2020-2021 Aviators

Lincoln is recalling 40,995 gasoline-only versions of its new Aviators. The battery cable wire harness is improperly secured, meaning the AC compressor pulley could rub through the wire harness’ insulation, resulting in an electrical fire.

No fires or injuries have been reported, and your local Lincoln dealer will either install a basic tie strap to separate the AC compressor pulley from the battery cable wire harness or replace the whole system (if contact has already caused damage).

Lincoln will notify affected Aviator owners the week of July 30.

Ford Also Issues Recall for Ford F-350 Super Duty Trucks

In addition to Ford Explorers, the manufacturer is recalling 34,939 Super Duty Trucks. Models affected by the recall have a 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel engine and a single rear wheel axle. The issue affects the “rear axle housing spring seat interface weld,” which may ultimately cause a loss of motive power and the loss of the transmission park function.

Before your rear driveline disconnects, you may notice vibration or shaking at high speeds and shuddering under acceleration. Ford will repair the problem by replacing axle housing for deformed axles or performing a weld repair on the spring seats to make sure the axle does not fail.

Ford has not received any accident or injury reports regarding this issue. Drivers of recalled vehicles should receive personalized notifications the week of August 16.

Plagued by Recalls?

Having a vehicle recalled is not an unusual experience. Takata airbag recalls, for example, affected 42 million vehicles in the United States alone. If your recently purchased new or certified pre-owned car is subject to recall after recall or numerous repairs to fix the same problem, however, you might have a lemon.

Although auto recalls are different than lemons, you may have rights under California law if your vehicle is defective or unsafe to drive.
