Can Squeaky Brakes Warrant a Lemon Law Claim?

Nothing can be more distracting than when you’re heading to work and your car brakes start squeaking. The brakes in your vehicle are one its most essential components, so noises coming from these auto parts can indicate a more serious problem that could impact your safety.

The good news is that squeaky brakes or any other problem affecting your brakes can, in fact, mean that you have a lemon on your hands.

BMW Squeaky Brakes Lead to Class Action Lawsuit

A class action lawsuit was recently filed against BMW that alleged certain vehicles are equipped with M compound brakes, which are defective and cause extremely loud high-pitched squealing noise. Plaintiff Alber Karamanoukian said that repeated trips to the dealership did nothing to fix the problem, as BMW technicians said that the noise was normal.

The lawsuit alleges that the loud brakes lead to unwanted attention on the road, including “the attention of officers of law enforcement agencies, who associate brake squeals with high-speed driving and racing.” Lastly, it is alleged that the brakes “increased risk of accident, injury, or death.”

This is just one example of a situation where squeaky brakes could be cause for a lemon law claim or point to a more serious safety concern. If your vehicle has a brake problem, it’s critical that you take it back to the dealership to get inspected and contact an attorney at our firm.
