Ford Motor Co. is recalling approximately 1.5 million Ford and Lincoln vehicles in the United States and Canada due to three separate issues which cause significant safety concerns.

The recall involves select 2011-13 Ford F-150 pickups with six-speed automatic transmissions, 2017-19 Lincoln Continental vehicles, and select 2019 Ford Mustang, Lincoln Navigator, and Lincoln Nautilus vehicles.

The following is a breakdown of the safety issues involving these vehicles:

Several 2011 to 2013 Ford F-150 Vehicles (Reference #19S07)

When the powertrain control module fails to read the signal from the transmission output speed sensor, the brief loss of signal causes a sudden downshift into first gear could, which can result in losing control of the vehicle and ultimately a crash. There have been at least five reported accidents due to this issue—one of them involving whiplash.

This recall affected 1.48 million vehicles in total. Approximately 1.26 million in the U.S. and 221,000 in Canada.

These pickup trucks with 6-speed automatic transmissions were built at the Dearborn Assembly Plant. Dealers will update the powertrain control module software free of charge.

Several 2017 to 2019 Lincoln Continentals (Reference #19S03)

A buildup of silicon contamination in the door latch motor causes the latch to not completely lock, potentially resulting in the door opening while the vehicle is in motion—thus increasing the risk of injury. There have yet to be any reported accidents caused by this issue.

This recall affects approximately 27,000 vehicles in the U.S., along with 1,200 in Canada.

These vehicles were built at Flat Rock Assembly Plant. Dealers are required to replace the door latches in all four doors of the vehicle, free of charge.

Several 2019 Ford Mustang/Lincoln Navigator/Lincoln Nautilus (Reference #19C03)

When these vehicles start up, the screen is blank because of the faulty assembly of instrument panels. Accidents involving this malfunction have yet to be reported.

This recall affects 4,200 vehicles. Affected 2019 Ford Mustangs were built at Flat Rock. Affected 2019 Lincoln Navigators were built at Kentucky Truck Plant. Affected 2019 Lincoln Nautilus SUVs were built at Oakville Assembly Plant.

Dealers will update the software without cost.
